RIVER EXPLORER

IN PADUCAH WITH THE RIVER EXPLORER

A day docked in Paducah, KY. A camera in hand and some friends in tow.

Well folks, I boarded the ole' RIVER EXPLORER at Cairo point (that's Fort Defiance, IL) with my bud, writer/ publisher Susan Jones for a short little ole' 2 and 1/2 day jaunt on the Mississippi, Ohio and Cumberlan' rivers. We were graciously brought to the point (and lef' there) by my sweet wife Deborah, who can be seen in the Cairo point picture. The crew picked us up in the little skiff that rides atop of the towboat Miss Nauri. Right there where the two mighty rivers gnash , slash an' roll together. That evenin' followin' a real nice ride on the Ohio river, I performed all by myself for the folks on board. I want ya to know that ya'll sure made it a wonderful show for me. There ain't nothin' like a River explorer crowd!

Nex' mornin' we was in Paducah, Kentucky where we spent a delightful day wonderin' the ole' lower town with some my new Explorer frin's. I walked around a makin' myself a complete bother, with my camera just a shootin' pictures of almos' everythin' an' everybody. I even got me a few shots of folks on the barge eatin' that great River Explorer food!

OH the River Explorer is mighty neat

the men are manly and the girls are sweet!

the food is great and there's lots to eat,

From the Mississippi River to the sea...

Later on that evenin' we was treated to a magnificent performance by my good friend, the world renowned thumb style guitar picker Mr. Eddie Pennington. Ole' brother Eddie sure tore 'um up but good.  After his show, Eddie exited our merry crew at the Barkley Loc (on the Cumberlan' river). I don't know if Eddie enjoyed gettin' out by a crawlin' up a loc ladder, but well sir, we sure did.

Our trip kindly wound up in Clarksville, TN. Now Clarksville is a located on one of my favorite rivers, the Cumberlan'. She is windin' and lovely way beyond measure. Narrow an' real personal in some places, then widenin' out to near a mile of crystal blue water in others. With bald eagles, egrets, deer and sometimes even turkeys so close ya almost feel like ya could touch um. And at night, in the fall, the stars pierce that inky black sky with their ice fire.

That evenin' in Clarksville we was met by my HOT BAND mates Mark McWherter (who picks a mean guitar), Tim May (who gets it on the mandolin an' the ole' resophonic guitar), Todd Cook ( who delights us all on his doghouse bass) and Brian Christenson (with his singin' fiddle) for an nighttime show. What a wonderful capper to a great trip that was, a pickin', singin' and a cuttin' up with my friends. Now ta all of you folks who was there, the guests and the crew, I would like to thank each of you for such a wonderful adventure. And I surly hope you enjoy these photos.
